Parliamentarians meet with delegation led by CoE Acting Head of Office in Yerevan
1 / 12

I attach great importance to the cooperation with the Council of Europe (CoE), especially when it is aimed at promoting the democratic agenda of our country. In this context, I would like to refer to the Protection of Human Rights in Biomedicine project, the aim of which is to bring Armenia’s legislation and practice more in line with the European standards in the fields of human rights and democracy.

The Deputy Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Rustam Bakoyan said this during the meeting with the delegation led by the Acting Head of Office in Yerevan of the Council of Europe Maxime Longangue.

The meeting held on February 6 was attended by the deputies of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Narek Zeynalyan, Lusine Badalyan, Marina Ghazaryan, Tatevik Gasparyan, Emma Palyan, Tigran Parsilyan and the deputy of the RA NA Armenia Faction Armenuhi Kyureghyan.

Rustam Bakoyan informed that appropriate letters have been sent to the RA Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health to obtain information on the foreign political expediency of signing and ratifying the Oviedo Convention, as well as on the steps taken so far to join the Convention.

The Acting Head of Office in Yerevan of the Council of Europe Maxime Longangue highly appreciated the steps taken and the efforts made towards the signing and ratification of the Oviedo Convention.

Narek Zeynalyan, highlighting the issue of protecting human rights regarding mental health, informed that the experience of various European countries is currently being studied.

The MPs also highly appreciated the cooperation with the Council of Europe and the continuous implementation of the European standards in the Republic of Armenia.
