The Government of the Republic of Armenia has nominated Gegham Gevorgyan for the position of the Chairman of the Competition Protection Commission.
The Parliament debated the election of the Chairman of the Competition Protection Commission at the regular sitting on February 29. The Acting Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan presented the biography and the work activity of the candidate.
Emphasizing that Gegham Gevorgyan has a rich work experience, Arman Khojoyan noted that the candidate has been active in the state administration system for about 15 years, and at the same time has been engaged in lecturing and scientific activities.
Expressing his gratitude for nominating his candidacy, Gegham Gevorgyan presented the activity report of the Competition Protection Commission for 2019-2023. “While compiling the report, we kept in mind the provisions that we promised to implement five years ago in the National Assembly in case we were elected,” the candidate said, also presenting the activity plan for the next five years.
The candidate answered the deputies’ questions, touching upon the monitoring carried out by the commission, the existing problems related to the reception and distribution of goods, the protection of the interests of local producers, consumers, the inaccessibility of services for people with disabilities, the fuel market.
In their speeches, the MPs referred to the protection of consumer rights, fuel quality, problems in the fuel market, the fight against anti-competitive agreements of dominant business entities, the effectiveness of budget expenditures, budget control, clarification of performance indicators, capacity development.
In his final speech, Gegham Gevorgyan thanked for the effective debate, related to the problems raised by the deputies and the possible ways to solve them.
