Joint Statement signed between Committees being engaged with science and education of parliaments of Armenia and Georgia

On March 28, the Chair of the Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport of the RA National Assembly Sisak Gabrielyan met with the delegation led by the Chairman of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee of Parliament of Georgia Givi Mikanadze. The Deputy Chair of the Committee Taguhi Ghazaryan, the Committee members Narek Babayan and Knyaz Hasanov also attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting Sisak Gabrielyan congratulated Georgia on the occasion of receiving status of the European Union candidate country. The Committee Chair underlined that the deepening of the relations with Georgia is of strategic importance for Armenia, which is fixed in the action plan of the Government of Armenia for 2021-2026.

The sides emphasized the close cooperation between the legislators, besides the contacts between the executive bodies of the two countries, which is one of the important directions of the bilateral relations. The necessity of deepening the ties in different spheres, particularly the rapprochement of interaction between the similar Committees of the two parliaments was underscored. In this context, in the educational reforms the exchange of the best experience, the deputies’ permanent contacts, the implementation of the joint events and projects were highlighted.

At the meeting with the representatives of the Parliament of Georgia ideas were exchanged on the reforms being implemented in the two countries in the spheres of general education, higher and professional education and science, in the youth and school construction issues. The concept of the Academic city project was presented to the Georgian colleagues.

The steps being taken in the two cities within the framework of the teachers’ professional training, attestation and certification processes were also discussed.

At the end of the meeting Sisak Gabrielyan and Givi Mikanadze signed a joint communique of cooperation between the two Committees. The document will put the activities of the two committees on an institutional basis and will give new opportunities for cooperation.
