1 / 10

A group of parents of minor children with diabetes addressed the member of the Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs Lilit Stepanyan within the framework of the regular reception of citizens, raising many questions regarding the diagnosis and control of the disease.

What does the modern world offer for the research and control of the disease, what is the policy adopted by Armenia regarding the early detection, supervision, and continuous control of the disease? In order to get the answers to these and many other questions, on Lilit Stepanyan’s initiative, on April 8, a work debate on the topic Features of care of minor children with diabetes at home and at school was held in the Parliament.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Health Care Narek Zeynalyan, the Deputy Chair of the Committee Lusine Badalyan, the Head of the Department of Assessment of the Functionality of Person and Provision of Supporting Means of the Unified Social Service Rima Yeganyan, the Head of the Department of Maternal and Child Health Protection of the RA Ministry of Health Nune Pashayan, the Head of the Department of Drug Policy and Medical Technologies Marine Harutyunyan, and the parents of minor children with diabetes participated in the debate.

The Head of the Department of Drug Policy and Medical Technologies of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia Marine Harutyunyan informed that there are about 1280 children and adolescents with diabetes in Armenia. The number of minors under the age of 18 with diabetes is increasing year by year: There is an 8% increase in the disease among minors.

According to approximate calculations, the state will need around 900 million AMD to provide measuring devices for blood glucose measurement.

According to the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Health Care Narek Zeynalyan, the methodology for assessing the person’s functionality in case of school-aged children attending kindergarten should be revised.

Referring to the issue of providing measuring devices for blood glucose measurement, the Committee Chair proposed to conduct statistical research, scale and, at the initial stage, to provide them according to age groups.

Lilit Stepanyan noted that in the near future, debates will be organized with the participation of the representatives of the responsible structures in order to create a supportive environment for people with diabetes based on international experience.
