Parliament continues to debate issue of election of judge of Constitutional Court
1 / 5

On May 22, the Parliament continued the debate of the issue of electing a judge of the Constitutional Court.

In his speech on behalf of the RA NA Armenia Faction, Artur Khachatryan referred to the events taking place in Tavush, the delimitation.

In his speech on behalf of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction, the Head of the Faction Hayk Konjoryan considered it logical that these days, in addition to the issue of electing a judge of the Constitutional Court, important issues of political importance, which are directly or indirectly related to the Constitutional Court, are being discussed.

Underlining that the processes taking place in Armenia these days are deeply related with the Constitutional Court (CC) as well, the Head of the Faction said. “Today in Armenia, there are certain political forces, groups, as well as our parliamentary opposition, which, shoulder to shoulder with forces outside Armenia, have set the task of dissolving the statehood of Armenia. And the CC is the most important institution for the preservation of Armenia’s statehood.”

Touching upon the thesis of the speech of the candidate for judge of the Constitutional Court Davit Khachaturyan, that achievable goals should be defined in the Constitution, Hayk Konjoryan noted that today’s discussions and political debate are about all that. “There is a debate about realizable goals and unrealizable dreams in our country today, and the delimitation is about that,” Hayk Konjoryan said. “Democracy in Armenia is irreversible, the power of the people is irreversible, the Constitutional Court is of fundamental importance in preserving democracy, and we are sure that the Constitutional Court will also have positive results after the results of this election, and we will be able to protect democracy in the RA.” – the Head of the Faction concluded.

The candidate of the judge of the Constitutional Court Davit Khachaturyan thanked for the debate in his final speech. He touched upon the questions addressed to him, talking about the Supreme Court system, parliamentarism, effective parliamentary control.

The National Assembly adopted the bills by voting debated the previous day.
