The member of the RA NA delegation to the OSCE PA, the deputy of the Civil Contract Faction Maria Karapetyan gave a speech at the OSCE PA Session in Bucharest.
“Thank you, Madam President.
Dear colleagues,
the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan is ready: The two South Caucasus republics indeed have a historic chance to transform their relationship, to move away from antagonism and towards collaboration. Our two countries have recognized each other’s territorial integrity verbally, and it is high time to do so on paper closing off any room for suspicions and concerns. Today, Armenia has no objections to signing the peace treaty. Azerbaijan says the Constitution of Armenia is an obstacle to signing the peace treaty. We should really put aside all the reasons for delaying the signing of the peace treaty. It has the most important things. One, the two countries recognize each other’s territorial integrity and inviolability of borders. And two, to make sure no one ever finds a way to shy away from this obligation, the peace treaty loudly declares that none of the two countries can evoke any internal legal act to question the other’s territorial integrity. In parallel, we should continue the border delimitation and demarcation. We shave uccessfully recreated a portion of the common border between our countries. We should continue the border delimitation and demarcation process along the entire perimeter of our common border. We should also continue looking for mutually acceptable solutions for unblocking the communications in the South Caucasus based on the sovereignty and jurisdiction of both Azerbaijan and Armenia and the principles of reciprocity and equality. We are also looking forward to continuing the dialogue with Türkiye on opening the border between our countries and establishing diplomatic relations. We already have agreements on the first steps and are looking forward to the implementation of these steps. Normalization of relations between Armenia and Türkiye can have a significant positive impact on the region of the South Caucasus, contributing to peace and collaboration in the region,” the MP said.
