On September 26 Mr. Tigran Torosyan, President of the National Assembly, received Mrs. Panayota Mavromichali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hellenic Republic to Armenia, on the occasion of the completion of her diplomatic mission. Mrs. Panayota Mavromichali expressed gratitude to Mr. Tigran Torosyan for two years’ fruitful and interesting work and also said that after the elections, held in Greece, Parliamentary Friendship Group with Armenia will be established soon at the newly-formed parliament of Hellenic Republic and the Ambassador who replaces her will have an opportunity to deepen the inter-parliamentary relations which, according to the Ambassador, have always been at a high level. Referring to the interstate relations, Mrs. Mavromichali noted with satisfaction that mutual visits of the presidents of the two countries and the meeting of the intergovernmental committee were held during two years, which had an aim of deepening of centuries-old relations. As Mrs. Mavromichali assured, returning Athens she will always be the friend of Armenia and Armenians and will always support in the issues related to Armenia.
Mr. Tigran Torosyan, President of the National Assembly, highly estimated the work done by the Ambassador during two years and wishing successes to Mrs. Panayota Mavromichali in her further activity reminded that in such cases in Armenia it is a tradition wishing a pleasant journey as well as saying goodbye, and he assured that she would really remain the friend of Armenia. Touching upon the inter-parliamentary relations Mr. Torosyan noted that the parliamentary friendship groups will be formed and the frameworks of the negotiation will be defined in two parliaments till the end of the year. Other bases of the cooperation were also noted: in the international structures, in particular in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe where the delegations of Armenia and Greece closely cooperated over various issues, and also in the European Parliament where the Greek deputies render considerable support in the issues related to Armenia. The NA President noted that the agreements, achieved during the negotiations of the presidents of the two countries have created opportunities for the further deepening of the relations, and these opportunities open new perspectives as both countries have not only historical and civilization common features, but also common interests within the framework of which the development of the links is a necessity.
During the meeting the importance of the mutual visits were stressed as an important factor of the development of the relations.
