Ambassador of Bulgaria in the National Assembly

On December 11 President of the National Assembly Mr. Tigran Torosyan received the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Armenia Mr. Stefan Dimitrov on the occasion of the completion of his diplomatic mission.

The NA President thanked the ambassador for the three years of the efficient work, due to which the Armenian-Bulgarian relations have been naturally developed. Mr. Torosyan highlighted the inter-parliamentary relations that are an inseparable part of inter-governmental relations, and noted that good preconditions had been created for developing both bilateral relations and cooperation in international structures. Since Bulgaria and Armenia are in the phase of European integration, Bulgarian experience may be useful for Armenia.

The Ambassador of Bulgaria in Armenia Mr. Stefan Dimitrov, who is returning to Sofia, said that he refers to his departure calmly and philosophically, feeling sure that they had done everything possible, but still there were things to be done, and the next ambassador would go on with them. Mr. Dimitrov, who has officiated in the countries of Latin America and Russia, ensured with his experience that the success of an ambassador’s work greatly depends on the circumstance of what is the ambassador’s attitude towards the country and people, where he is working, and what is the attitude towards that ambassador. In this respect Mr. Dimitrov thanked the President of the National Assembly Mr. Torosyan for the support and understanding that the latter had showed him during the fulfillment of his diplomatic mission, and without which they wouldn’t achieve effective cooperation. Highlighting the coming official visit of the head of the Parliament to Bulgaria the ambassador qualified it as a stimulus for the development of inter-parliamentary relations, mentioning that by working order the contract of the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation was already being prepared, which would be signed during the visit, returning to the legal grounds of the development of the relations. One of the significant results of his work the Ambassador considered the creation and publication of the Armenian-Bulgarian dictionary consisting of 800 pages, which will bring closer the nations, which had historically contributed to each other. Mr. Dimitrov also highlighted the teaching of the Bulgarian language to the pupils and students at the Peyo Yarov School and the students at the Slovenic University. He also stated that during the Bulgarian prime minister’s visit to Armenia an agreement was reached to organize Days of Bulgaria in Armenia. By assuring the intention of his further relations with Armenia and the Armenians, the Ambassador also expressed his wish to return to Armenia and see Karabakh for sure, in order to get familiarized with the people personally.

The NA President Mr. Tigran Torosyan, wishing the Ambassador good luck in his future work once more, appreciated highly the ambassador’s desire to be in Nagorno Karabakh. In human and professional respect he agreed that getting familiarizing with the people personally, as well as the conflict history, was very important, in order to understand the historic truth and to have an idea of people who had suffered, but never lost their vivacity and resoluteness.

During the meeting other problems of mutual importance were discussed as well.
