Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Hovik Abrahamyan is in Iran on an Official Visit

On September 29 the official visit of the Speaker of RA National Assembly Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan to the Islamic Republic of Iran began.

In the afternoon in Mehrabad Airport of Tehran Mr. Saeed Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard, first deputy of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) met the delegation headed by RA NA Speaker. Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan had a short talk in the hall of honorable guests.

Later the delegation headed by RA NA Speaker went to the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran, where the meeting of Mr. Abrahamyan and Speaker of IRI Parliament Mr. Ali Latijani took place.

Greeting the RA NA delegation the Speaker of IRI Parliament expressed confidence that the Armenian-Iranian friendship having centuries and millennia old history on behalf of the leadership of the two countries has found deserved and faithful propagators of those relations. He also expressed hope that the firm historic ground allows today to develop the bilateral relations in all spheres, including political, trade-economic and cultural spheres.

Expressing his gratitude for warm reception RA NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan agreed with the assessment of bilateral relations of IRI Parliament Speaker. He re-confirmed his invitation of Mr. Larijani’s visit to Armenia and expressed hope that in the nearest future he would host with Iranian partner in Yerevan.

During the meeting Mr. Abrahamyan and Mr. Larijani discussed the agreements reached between the Presidents of two countries and the issues of the implementation of their indicated programmes, paying special attention to the project of new railway connecting Armenia and Iran.

The interlocutors agreed that the Armenian-Iranian firm and friendly relations emanate from long-term strategic interests of the two countries. IN that context they discussed the strategic situation of the region. Upon the request of his partner Mr. Abrahamyna presented Armenia’s position in the negotiations of the regulation of Artsakh problem, as well as the latest developments in the process of normalization of the Armenian-Turkish relations.

At the meeting the interlocutors also reached an agreement to deepen the inter-parliamentary cooperation of the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Later the delegation headed by RA NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan visited the IRI National Security Supreme Council, where he met with the Secretary of IRI National Security Supreme Council Mr. Saeed Jalili. During the meeting the Secretary of IRI National Security Supreme Council presented the programmes of cooperation with the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia. Then the interlocutors launched the discussion of the problems of regional security.

On the same day in the evening the delegation headed by RA NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan visited the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the Islamic Republic of Iran, where it met with the Armenian diplomats working in Tehran.
