National Assembly Doors Opened Before the Senior High School Students
1 / 5

Within the framework of the Open Doors of the National Assembly programme, on February 1 the 9th form students of schools of different administrative districts of Yerevan visited the parliament. This specific open lesson aims to familiarize the senior high school students with the work, the structure of the legislative body, the powers reserved by the Constitution. The students were given opportunity to take part in the opening ceremony of the spring session of the National Assembly, which began at the moment of their visit. Afterwards, NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan had a warm and informal meeting with the children. The Parliament Speaker first urged them to study well, continuously enrich their own knowledge. Due to active participation of such events, according to Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan, the students will form state way of thinking, and from today on the young generation will take part in the establishment of the state.

The NA Speaker answered the questions of the students, who visited the parliament. The first question referred to the ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols, and as a result of it, the possible achievements of Armenia. “Today in the territory of Georgia product of 250mln USD is imported from Turkey to Armenia, and about 1mln 500.000 USD is exported. Whatsoever, the Turkish product comes to our country, but mediated and several times higher of the price,” the Parliament Speaker said, expressing confidence that the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border will have positive influence on Armenia’s economy. Regarding the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament is confident that due to diplomatic efforts that issue will be certainly solved.

In response to the question, when finally the world financial-economic crisis will say farewell to us, the NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan said that because of crisis in 2009 the economy of Armenia had 14.5% fall, the inflation was 6.5%. These are bad indices but during that period the Government of Armenia did everything to keep away the country from possible shocks. “There was no social programme that was delayed,” stressed Mr. Abrahamyan. The Government of our country forecasts for this year 1% financial growth and everything must be done to make reality that forecast.

Numerous questions were addressed to NA Speaker Mr. Hovik Abrahamyan, to which the Parliament Speaker answered in detail and warmly. The directors of the schools thanked the Parliament Speaker on behalf of the children, as well as the head of the Education Department of Yerevan Municipality Gayane Soghomonyan, who accompanied the group to the parliament.

By the way, open classes of this kind with the participation of the senior students of the schools of Yerevan and other cities and villages of our country will be regularly organized during four-day sittings.
