On February 23 the National Assembly continued the work of the four-day sittings. A group of senior students of Yerevan Kanaker-Zeytun administrative community attended the sitting of the parliament.

The deputies continued the debate of the bill On Amending the RA Law On Gambling and Casinos submitted by the government.

The deputies Ara Nranyan, Lilit Galstyan, Hakob Hakobyan, Anahit Bakhshyan, Stepan Safaryan, Viktor Dallakyan, Armen Martirosyan, Artsvik Minasyan gave speeches.

After the debate the deputies passed the bill by 65 for, 30 against and 3 abstained votes. The Parliament also adopted all the bills and agreements, which were debated on the previous day.

Later, according to the Article 26 of NA Rules of Procedure, election of the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs was held. The Head of RPA faction Galust Sahakyan, the member of the Prosperous Armenia faction Vardan Bostanjyan, the head of the Country of Law faction Heghine Bisharyan proposed the candidacy of the secretary of the Prosperous Armenia faction Aram Safaryan. Expressing his gratitude to the party and his colleagues for the displayed trust Aram Safaryan noted that in case of being elected he will carry out an activity based on the principles of respect, cooperation and tolerance.

On behalf of RPA faction Artak Davtyan presented Aram Safaryan’s human and professional positive features, introducing him as Armenian patriot intellectual, a wonderful person and specialist, a wonderful diplomat. According to the RPA member, from the deserved candidates of the Prosperous Armenia faction the best has been elected. The deputy Khachik Harutyunyan also presented his colleague’s wonderful human professional virtues in his speech.

Secret ballot was held in parallel with the sitting. The Chairman of the Ad-hoc Counting Committee Gagik Melikyan said that 84 deputies took part in the secret ballot and in favour of the only proposed candidate Aram Safaryan voted 82 deputies. 2 ballots were recognized invalid.

The parliament debated the bill On Amending the RA Law on Television and Radio, which submitted the deputies Anahit Bakhshyan and Armen Martirosyan with the procedure of the extraordinary debate and in the first reading.

The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Artak Davtyan presented the negative conclusion.

In his extraordinary speech the NA Vice Speaker called on some deputies to keep away from voicing offensive assessments.

Later the parliament debated in the first reading the bill On Making Addendum to the RA Law On RA International Treaties presented by the Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan.

The member of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Shirak Torosyan said that the bill has been debated in the committee and endorsed.

The deputies Stepan Safaryan, Tigran Torosyan and Viktor Dallakyan, who were connecting the addendum being in the law with the process of ratification of the Armenian-Turkish protocols, gave speeches.
