As we have said, the Children-Youth Republican Recitation Contest-Festival is held under the patronage of the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, which this year is dedicated to the 125th birth anniversary of the Armenian well-known poet Vahan Terian. The Contest-Festival first time was held in 2009 again under the patronage of the Speaker of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan, Until today the contest was held in the marzes: Gegharkunik, Shirak, Lori, Vayots Dzor and Aragatsotn.

In Ijevan the Speaker of the National Assembly attended the next phase of the contest-festival. The Governor of Tavush Armen Ghularyan thanked the RA NA Speaker, under whose patronage the festival was held and an opportunity was given to admire Terian’s poetry.

The NA deputy Tachat Vardapetyan touched upon Terian’s poetry and highly assessed the conduct of the Recitation Contest-Festival.

In the words of the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Sport and Youth Artak Davtyan (he is also the jury chairman of the festival, and the honoured chairman is the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan) last year the restoration of our recitation school began under the patronage of the NA Speaker. Thousands of schoolchildren and hundreds of teachers with their work promoted that first festival be established and success would be recorded. “At that time it was noted that this festival will be continuous, and the proof of it is also this event being held in Tavush Marz,” Artak Davtyan said.

In the talk with the journalists the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan noted: “Last year we agreed that these festivals will be continuous, and through them we also shall involve in the cultural processes the population of the marzes. The important thing is to restore in the schoolchildren the love towards Armenian literature, poetry that we had years ago. I am sure that continuing this process we’ll achieve that.”

The NA Speaker met with the leadership of the marz in the Regional Council of Tavush. Hovik Abrahamyan noted with joy that if last year 6.000 children took part in the festival, this year 10.000 participants is expected this year, which witnesses of the success of the festival. The NA Speaker expressed hope that the festival would promote the revival of love towards the Armenian Literature, Armenian language and poetry and continuing the rich traditions of the Armenian recitation. Hovik Abrahamyan expressed conviction that the festival would be continuous and they would do their best to make it more popular.

In the course of the meeting other issues were also discussed. The NA Speaker touched upon Armenia’s foreign policy and enlivening of parliamentary diplomacy. He noted that in the international structures the National Assembly strove for actively presenting the foreign policy of the country pursued by the President of the republic. In particular, Hovik Abrahamyan noted on the NK conflict that they should do their best to solve the problem in peaceful way within the OSCE Minsk Group.

Afterwards RA NA Speaker visited the village of Azatamut, with which he had long-year ties and where he was warmly remembered. In the school of the village Hovik Abrahamyan talked with the teachers over the issues concerning them, walked round the school, got acquainted with the teaching conditions, the existing problems and expressed willingness to support for their solution. The head of the Parliament did not go there empty handed: the school received a computer and books from NA Speaker. Hovik Abrahamyan invited the schoolchildren to visit the National Assembly within the framework of the Open Lesson programme, get acquainted with the works of the parliament and take part in the sitting.

In Azatamut the NA Speaker also met with the people of the village. The villagers introduced their various problems to the Speaker of the Parliament. In particular, they asked the NA Speaker to support in changing their settlement, which would promote the improvement of the conditions. Hovik Abrahamyan promised to discuss the possibilities of solving the problem after getting introduced with it in detail.

The NA Speaker also visited the workshop of cigarette drying of Masis Tabak Company and got familiarized with its work.
