On April 4 RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan received the UNICEF Representative in Armenia Laylee Moshiri. The Deputy Ombudsman of Norway for Children’s Rights Knut Haanes, The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Health Care, Maternity and Childhood Ara Babloyan, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Aram Safaryan attended the meeting.
RA NA Speaker highly assessed the cooperation with UNICEF Armenia Office and expressed willingness to develop it. According to Hovik Abrahamyan, the relations between the National Assembly and UNICEF have considerable potential, and it is necessary to more activate the cooperation.
Ms Laylee Moshire expressed satisfaction from the cooperation with RA National Assembly and highlighted the visit of the delegation of the Armenian Parliament to Norway recently within the framework of the program Strengthening of the Protection of the Children’s Rights in Armenia. She noted that there were big expectations from the regional of seminar the Inter-Parliamentary Union and UNICEF to be held in Yerevan on RA NA initiative on June 14-16, 2011.
The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Health Care, Maternity and Childhood Ara Babloyan, the Chairman of the Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Aram Safaryan, who were involved in the delegation, which visited Norway, presented the results of their meetings. The members of the delegation submitted their recommendations to NA Speaker. The NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the Armenian delegation was impressed by the results of the visit to Norway and expressed willingness to support the fulfillment of the necessary programs.
Hovik Abrahamyan noted that within the framework of the Open Doors program numerous children were hosted in the parliament. They had opportunity to attend the sittings of the parliament and meet the NA Speaker. There is also close cooperation with the organizations being involved with the issues of handicapped children. The NA Speaker said that during his official visit to Syria he had been to one of the orphanages and being impressed by the meeting invited the children of that institution to Armenia: they will have their holidays for 15 days in the children’s camp in Tsakhkadzor.
Summing up the NA Speaker highlighted such visits with regard to cooperation and exchange of experience and again stressed the necessity of activating the cooperation.
