On April 29 RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan received the Commissioner on EU Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle.

Welcoming the guest Hovik Abrahamyan expressed conviction that his visit would promote the rapprochement and activation of relations between Armenia and European Union. The NA Speaker said that the political dialogue between Armenia and European Union, the regular mutual visits of high-ranking officials boost the partnership. Highlighting the role of the Euronest, Eastern Partnership Parliamentary format, the NA Speaker noted that the National Assembly of Armenia was one of the first to welcome the idea of the EURONEST and did its best for its implementation.

Štefan Füle considered positive the stance of the RA NA on the EURONEST and highly assessed the role in the difficult process of the creation of that structure. In his words, the Armenian Parliament has an important role in Armenia-European Union relations, as well as in the formation of the civil society and implementation of the reforms.

The interlocutors touched upon the procedure of the reforms being implemented in Armenia and the steps taken in that direction. The European diplomat expressed hope that the parliamentary elections to be held in Armenia in 2012 would be free and fair and would comply with European standards. NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan noted that the authorities had political will to implement necessary reforms. The sides highlighted the need of further cooperation.
