On May 16 in RA National Assembly representatives of large families, who were representing different marzes and the capital, were hosted. On the occasion of the Day of the Family by the order of RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan in solemn ceremony the Parliament Speaker handed letters of acknowledgements and monetary awards to 20 large families’ parents. Congratulating them Hovik Abrahamyan said:

“I am glad to host you in the National Assembly, moreover that the hospitality is one of the characteristic features for Armenian family. It’s a double pleasure for me to meet you on the occasion of the Day of the Family.

It has been about 18 years that in the world May 15^th is celebrated International Day of the Family.

As you know, last week the National Assembly passed a law, by which May 15^th in Armenia is defined as Day of the Family. I hope that after officially entering into force the Day of the Family during the short period will become one of the most beloved holidays of our people. Eventually, almost all the holidays, which are included in our state calendar, in this or that way are related to the family.

Though this day is included in the official calendar but I wish it be not official, but a warm family holiday, which will unite everybody.

Family is really a collective sacredness, which in it has love and fidelity, trust, unity and respect, dignity and consolidation.

Family is one of the most important preconditions of the nation’s survival. From the school years the following words of the Armenian writer Muratsan is familiar to us: “The nations’ existence is in the family. Powerful is the nation, which has strong family.” Having large family, raising and bringing up children is a big responsibility and demands devotion. I am thankful to you, in the face of you all Armenian large families that you, irrespective of conditions, have gone to that responsibility, realizing the family’s value and importance. Russian writer Lev Tolstoy has said that all the happy families are happy in the same way, every unhappy family is unhappy in its way. I wish that irrespective of any situation, we won’t have unhappy families, and everybody will be caring and attentive towards our family, close relatives and, in general, towards each other, and not from holiday to holiday.

Every family in some respect is also the mirror of the society. As a power our duty is to promote that in the country all the families be prosperous because firm and united family is the guarantor of strengthening and progress of the given state. I am sure in the future the state will have bigger opportunities to support its citizen.

I congratulate everybody and wish happiness, peace and welfare in the family.”

On the occasion of the Day of the Family for the contribution in the development of the family-society-state link the Chairman of the International Association of Lawyers and Psychologists Khachatur Marozyan was awarded by RA NA Speaker’s letter of acknowledgement.The latter in the name of the large families and their organization thanked the President of the Republic, the NA Speaker, the deputies for highlighting the Day of the Family. He welcomed the Open Doors policy of the National Assembly, which promotes the activation of the society-state cooperation.

At the end of the event the guests of the parliament have been taken photo with the NA Speaker, to which followed warm and sincere talk between Hovik Abrahamyan and large families’ parents.
