Meeting of the Friendship Groups

On May 17 the head of Armenia-Hungary Friendship Group and the members of the Group met their colleagues of Hungary-Armenia Friendship Group.

Welcoming the guests Gagik Melikyan expressed hope that the Hungarian colleagues’ visit to Armenia would be an impetus for the rapprochement and enhancement of the Armenian-Hungarian centuries long friendship, which was raised to a new qualitative degree after the official visit of RA President Serzh Sargsyan to Hunagry recently.

Gagik Melikyan and Lilit Galstyan thanked the Hungarian people for warm and compassionate attitude shown towards national minorities, in particular to the Hungarian Armenians.

The Head of Hungary-Armenia Friendship Group, Armenian by his origin András Cooper, noted that the main goal of the visit to Armenia was the restoration of the Armenian-Hungarian friendship relations and the wish of their enhancement. And for that, according to interlocutors, there all preconditions: historical and cultural similarities, wide field of cooperation within the format of the Eastern Partnership of the European Union.

To the Armenian and Hungarian colleagues’ conviction. The establishment of the embassies in two countries can be favorable for cooperation.

The guests said that debates were going in the Hungarian Parliament on the recognition of the Genocide perpetrated towards Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915.
