On March 12 the RA NA Chairman, the Vice-Chairmen, the Chairmen of the Standing Committees, the faction leaders met Mikhail Saakashvili, the President of Georgia.

Welcoming the guests, Artur Baghdasaryan, the RA NA Chairman congratulated him on the occasion of his election and expressed confidence that the Armenian-Georgian inter-state relations will develop from that day on and after the election in the Georgian Parliament the Armenian-Georgian inter-parliamentary relations will be carried on. The Chairman of the Parliament also highlighted the active integration of the thousands of Armenians living in Georgia in the life of the country.

Mikhail Saakashvili, the President of Georgia considered the aim of his visit to Armenia as the transferring of the mutual relations of the two countries from the formal stage into real one. He emphasized that Armenia is a strategic partner for Georgia and not only the centuries old friendship connects our countries in the region, but also the same faith and way of thinking. The President of Georgia noted that he is for the establishment of the regional unified economic area because not a single country can develop separately and the regional inner resources should be used, as an aid cannot be forever. Mr. Saakashvili also touched upon the problems relating to the Armenians of Javakhk, noting that the solution of the social-economic problems and the establishment of order will be given priority. He assured that after one year the railway passing through the area of Abkhazia will function, the importance of which is invaluable for the development of the whole region. The President of Georgia highlighted the establishment of order in his country, the fighting against corruption. It was emphasized that the new tax code is already being worked out, which will create prerequisites for economic development.

The parties discussed also the issues in the atmosphere of mutual understanding during the meeting.
