NA Vice Speaker Meets with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union
1 / 1

On June 14 Samvel Nikoyan, the Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, the Head of the NA Delegation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union met with Anders Johnsson, the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, who was in the National Assembly to take part in the Regional Parliamentary Conference.

Highly appreciating the role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in the protection of human rights and strengthening of democratic values, Mr Nikoyan expressed conviction that the conference being held in Armenia would more promote the active cooperation of the RA National Assembly with the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Mr Johnsson thanked him for willingly accepting the proposal of holding the conference in Armenia and for high-level organizational work.

Both sides emphasized the problem of activating the participation of the regional member countries in the works of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and developing regional cooperation on the issues of general interest. Mr Nikoyan proposed to cooperate not only with the member countries of the organization, but also with the “non-recognized” countries, ensuring their participation in the seminars pertaining to various problems.

Mr Johnsson accepted with satisfaction Mr Nikoyan’s proposal on holding one of the 2013-2014 conferences of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Yerevan and said that the issue would be discussed in the Executive Committee, taking into account all the conditions it would be solved by mutual agreement.
