On November 30 the RA NA Hovik Abrahamyan received the President of the European People’s Party (EPP) Wilfried Martens. The Vice President of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Jacek Saryusz-Wolski was attending the meeting.

Welcoming the EPP President the RA NA President noted that Mr Martens’ second visit to Armenia during one year witnessed the rapprochement and development of Armenia-European Union relations and expressed conviction that it would be an additional impetus to the process of Armenia’s integration into European big family. In his word, the year 2012 was significant for the RA three political parties, the RPA, the PAP and the Heritage party, which with observer’s status joined the EPP. In the NA President’s word, the joining the EPP of the Armenia’s parties is observed the most important component of the Association process with Europe and stems from our general Christian heritage, as well as our adherence to the principles of fundamental freedoms, democracy and human rights principles. The Head of the parliament noted that during the recent years Armenia headed by the RA President had made great efforts for building a democratic country based on European value system, and more deepening the relations with the European Union and today we record visible successes. Hovik Abrahamyan underlined that the RA National Assembly would do its best to more boost the deepening of Armenia-EU relations.

Thanking for reception Wilfried Martens noted that after his last visit positive findings and progress had been registered and documented with joy that from now on Armenia’s parties actively take part and are involved in the decision-making process in Europe.

The interlocutors also touched upon the reforms being made in Armenia, regional problems, as well as other issues of bilateral interest.
