The President of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan on April 26 met with the BA and MA students from Yerevan State University, the Northern University, the Administration Academy and the Armenian-Russian (Slavonic) University, passing educational practice in the parliament.

The Head of the Parliament welcomed the students' wish of passing experience in the legislative body of the country and expressed conviction that the knowledge received here and the contacts would be useful for getting oriented in the things to be done in future. Noting that the economy year by year becomes more dependent on knowledge, Hovik Abrahamyan called on the students to use all the possibilities of studying and using their time effectively. The NA President deemed very important the role of the youth in the political, economic, educational and other spheres, bringing as an example the involvement of the young deputies in the parliament and the activity of the Youth Parliament.

The Head of the Parliament talked with the future politicians and lawyers about the activity of the National Assembly. Hovik Abrahamyan highlighted the parliamentary diplomacy which was an important tool for presenting the key problems for the country to the world. The NA President presented to the students the positions and understanding of the RA authorities on the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, noting that they also fight with parliamentary levers against Azerbaijani disinformation and oil dollar lobbying, presenting information and facts. In recognition of the Armenian Genocide the NA President is convinced: Turkey will one day understand that by denying this fact or closing the border with the neighbouring country it cannot intend to become an EU member. At the students’ request the NA President also touched upon other regional issues.

Hovik Abrahamyan invited the students to a sincere talk, and they addressed the various questions to the NA President: from inner political problems up to solution of the NK issue and fighting against emigration. Hovik Abrahamyan noted that there were some omissions, and the people’s discontent is visible to the authorities. In May by the elections of the elders of Yerevan the phase of main elections ends, and in the coming years the authorities get good opportunities to fulfill programmes, reach consolidation in the political field and solve together the problems facing the country. Hovik Abrahamyan assured that there was a political will for implementing essential reforms.

In the course of the meeting the Head of the Parliament talked with the students about Diaspora, education, problems of job, possible constitutional reforms and about other issues.
