On May 5 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan visited the Mother See Holy Etchmiadzin. During the meeting with His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians,  legislative issues relating to church-state relations were discussed, the unique role of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the life of the country and the people was highly appreciated, and the effective cooperation formed between the Armenian Church and the RA National Assembly was highlighted.

His Holiness congratulated Galust Sahakyan on the occasion of being elected President of the RA National Assembly and wished him fruitful activity.

Highly assessing the role of the Armenian Church in the national life, the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan highlighted the contribution of joint efforts in overcoming the challenges facing the Armenian people. The NA President considered necessary the further cooperation of the Mother See and the RA National Assembly.

The Supreme Patriarch expressed confidence that the President and the deputies of the National Assembly, being the ones expressing the people’s aspirations and expectations, with legislative reforms would promote the progress of the country and ensure the people’s dignified and well-to-do life.

During the talk the interlocutors touched upon the relationship between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the RA National Assembly, as well as the role of the Armenian Church as a national unique structure consolidating the people.

At the end of the meeting the Supreme Patriarch once again wished the leading of the Holy Spirit to the NA President in his responsible mission.
