On May 6 the Vice President of the National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov received the Head of Armenian Evangelical Community in Syria, Reverend Har օ uti օ un Selimian and the RA former General Consul in Aleppo Karen Grigoryan.

In the course of the meeting the sides discussed the situation in Syria, the security problems of the Syrian-Armenians and issues connected with the support to the Syrian Armenians who came to Motherland.

Presenting the calamities of the Syrian war and their consequences in the Syrian Armenians’ life, the Head of Armenian Evangelical Community of Syria thanked the people of Armenia and the President of the country for heart-felt attitude and support. To his conviction, the solution of the national problems is possible only by joint efforts and unity of the strong Motherland and viable Diaspora.

By Eduard Sharmazanov’s assessment, the Syrian Armenian community is one of the key and united sections of the Armenian Diaspora, which has been a wonderful example of nation preservation for other emigration centers of Diaspora. He has expressed admiration for the Syrian Armenians – their invincible will of overcoming the difficulties and assured that the Armenian authorities do their best for backing Syria in establishing peace through different diplomatic means. Eduard Sharmazanov has expressed readiness for taking part in the discussions of the upcoming days of the Syrian Armenians, listen to their proposals and do their utmost for solving their problems.

In the process of international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and fighting against the denial the NA Vice President highlighted the role of Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora unity. He has expressed concern that this time Turkey continues to perpetrate Armenians’ genocide in other ways, and its evidence is the fact of deporting the Kessab Armenians from their houses.

During the meeting the sides also discussed other issues relating to the Syrian Armenian community.
