On May 19 the National Assembly began the work of the next four-day sittings. The NA deputies recalled the genocide of the Pontic Greeks, May 19, honoured the memory of the innocent victims by one minute silence.
The parliament approved the agendas of the session and the four-day sittings and by voting passed the seven bills debated on the previous sitting.
The NA deputies welcomed the schoolchildren and the teachers of Gegharkunik Tsaghkunk Open School, who visited the National Assembly within the framework of the "Open Doors" programme and were following the procedure of the NA sittings.
The National Assembly continued the debate of the package of bills “On Amending the RA Law on Accounting” and “On Amending the RA Law on RA Customs Code.”
Tevan Poghosyan from the Heritage faction, Artsvik Minasyan from the ARF faction, Levon Zurabyan from the ANC faction, the NA Deputy Mikayel Melkumyan expressed the views of their factions.
The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Vardan Ayvazyan and the RA Deputy Minister of Finance Vakhtang Mirumyan delivered speeches on the package of bills.
The National Assembly also debated the issue of the appointment of the RA Central Bank (CB) Chairman.
The RA President Serzh Sargsyan in that post nominated Artur Javadyan’s candidacy.
In accordance with the NA Rules of Procedure, Artur Javadyan introduced the works done and their results, also answered to the NA deputies’ questions.
The NA deputies Artashes Geghamyan, Mkrtich Minasyan, Gagik Minasyan and Khosrov Harutyunyan in their speeches assessed Artu Javadyan’s activities in the post of the CB Chairman’s post and announced that they would vote for his candidacy.
Mher Shahgeldyan has noted that the members of the Rule of Law faction are free to vote. Naira Zohrabyan has stated that the deputies of the PAP faction will not take part in voting , Artsvik Minasyan has talked about the functional contradictions of the bank system.
The head of the Heritage faction Rubik Hakobyan and the head of the ANC faction Levon Zurabyan have announced that their factions will not take part in voting.
Mikayel Melkumyan presented the viewpoint of the PAP faction, indicating the shorcomings of the banking system and the credit policy in particular.
The debate of the issue will continue at May 20 sitting of the National Assembly.
