Meeting at the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations

On May 21 the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan met with Nicolas Briec, Secretary of the External Relations of the European People’s Party (EPP), and Beatriz de Anta de Benito, Political Adviser.

During the meeting the sides discussed a number of issues relating to the RA foreign policy, particularly, issues concerning the perspectives of the RA-EU cooperation. Artak Zakaryan expressed hope that after the elections of the European Parliament it would be possible in practice to advance the problems of mutual interests of the RA-EU cooperation, deepen the spheres of cooperation, as well as develop the political and inter-party relations. At Mr Zakaryan’s request Nicolas Briec introduced in detail the pre-election developments in the elections of the European Parliament. The sides touched upon the cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership, in particular, the further positions of Armenia in the Euronest PA.

Artak Zakaryan presented the process of Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, in that issue the expectations of Armenia, the perspectives of the strategic cooperation with the Russian Federation. The sides talked about the ongoing developments around the NK and the regional problems conditioned by it. The sides referred to a series of inner-political issues, particularly, the activity of the newly formed government. The interlocutors also touched upon the developments around Ukraine. Mr Zakaryan expressed hope that the situation in Ukraine would stabilize after the presidential elections, which would give an opportunity to make the developments predictable.
