Co-rapporteurs of the PACE Monitoring Committee Meet with the Armenian Delegation to the PACE
1 / 1

On June 17 the co-rapporteurs Axel Fischer and Alan Meale from the PACE Monitoring Committee on Armenia met with the Head of the RA NA delegation to the PACE Hermine Naghdalyan, deputies Arpine Hovhannisyan, Naira Karapetyan, Levon Zurabyan, Mher Shahgeldyan. The RA Permanent Representative to the CoE Armen Papikyan attended the meeting.

The Head of the RA NA delegation to the PACE Hermine Naghdalyan has noticed that though there are deputies representing different political directions in the delegation, as requires the Rule of Procedure, nevertheless the common work is successfully implemented. She has noticed that the European values are close and perceptible to the Armenian people, hence, there is no obstacle to jointly work with the European counterparts. However, as she has noticed, some delegates try to use the European platform for other purposes, spreading and seeding intolerance and xenophobia. Arpine Hovhannisyan has opined that it is necessary for Europe to stop and carry out reappraisal of values, to find out where it goes and make efforts, which will rule out the manifestations of intolerance and xenophobia.

In his word, Mher Shahgeldyan touched upon the facts of violation of ceasefire by Azerbaijan as a consequence, noting the Armenian soldiers’ deaths.

Levon Zurabyan has pointed out the current problems in the country, which relate to the human rights and freedoms.

In the course of the meeting other issues were also discussed. Both sides highlighted the further development of the Armenia-CoE cooperation.
