On September 30 the NA Deputy Speaker, the Head of the Armenia-Latvia Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov met with Elita Gavele, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Latvia to the RA, and Juris Poikāns, Ambassador-at-Large, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. Armen Ghasaboghlyan, the Honourable Consul of Latvia to Armenia, also attended the meeting.
The NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov has underlined that Armenia highlights the cooperation with Latvia both in bilateral and the EU Eastern Partnership format. He has stressed that one of Armenia's foreign political priorities is the continuity of the political dialogue with the EU, and has underscored that Latvia can serve as an effective bridge in that issue.
Touching upon the events to be organized ahead of the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, the NA Deputy Speaker has highlighted the organization of an exhibition of the Armenian Genocide Museum exhibits in Latvia, which will give an opportunity to the Latvian community to be better acquainted with the tragedy occurred to the Armenian people.
The guests have noted that though Armenia has made a decision on accession to the Customs Union, nevertheless, their goal is to find ways of further cooperation with Armenia within the framework of the Eastern Partnership.
In the course of the meeting the parties discussed issues concerning the development of the Armenian-Latvian relations and deepening of inter-parliamentary ties, and touched upon the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held in Latvia.
