Press Conference in the Parliament
1 / 3

On October 10 in the RA National Assembly the press conference of the members of the delegation headed by the RA NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan, which have left for Georgia on an official visit on October 6-8, was held, during which they detailed on the results.

The delegation comprised of the NA Deputy Speaker Hermine Naghdalyan, deputies Vahram Baghdasaryan, Hrant Grigoryan, Vardan Ayvazyan, Artsvik Minasyan, Tatshat Vardapetyan, Nikol Pashinyan, Vladimir Badalyan and Tevan Poghosyan.

Highlighting the visit, the member of the delegation Hermine Naghdalyan has considered crucial, as during the recent years the Armenian-Georgian cooperation and relations have noticeably decreased, because of which numerous problems have been accumulated both in the inter-parliamentary and inter-state relations. To Mrs Naghdalyan’s assessment, both sides have voiced important interpellations, a number of agreements have been reached on many issues. The Armenian and Georgian counterparts have designed to activate the inter-parliamentary relations through parliamentary Friendship Groups and distinct agenda.

During the visit the delegation had meetings with the President of Georgia, Heads of the legislative and executive bodies, as well as the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II.

At the meeting with the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili the parties have underlined that the Armenian and Georgian peoples’ friendship is strengthening, though the two countries have chosen different ways of integration. The Head of the two parliaments have expressed conviction that this fact should not impede the development of the friendly relations and ties of the two countries and the two peoples, and it should serve as a bridge for each other and create new perspectives of cooperation.

The RA NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan has informed them that the year 2015 marks the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide. He invited the Georgian MPs to take part in the events dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Genocide to be held in Yerevan in April.

During the meeting the sides have touched upon the problems of preservation of the Armenian cultural values, which has also highlighted the Georgian side.

The members of the delegation have also emphasized the meetings with the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili and the Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili, where the parties referred to the directions of cooperation of the two countries and the regional problems. During the meeting with the President of Georgia the NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan has expressed concern about the armament race in the region, noting that represents a danger for the neighbouring country. He has noticed that the huge amount of money that Azerbaijan and Turkey spend on buying weapons, could be aimed at the implementation of the stable development programmes in the region, and the President of Georgia also agreed in that issue, welcoming the work done by the OSCE Minsk Group in the direction of the NK conflict.

The members of the delegation also answered the journalists’ questions.
