On November 19 Eduard Sharmazanov, the RA NA Vice President, the Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the RA National Assembly and the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus met with Yiannakis Omirou, the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus and the delegation led by him. The members of the abovementioned Committee Margarit Yesayan, Ruzanna Muradyan, Koryun Nahapetyan and Gagik Ghalachyan, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Greece, also pluralistically to Cyprus took part in the meeting.

Welcoming the guests’ visit to Armenia the NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov in his name and the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the RA National Assembly and the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus has highly assessed the Armenian-Cypriot brotherly relations, underlining the Armenian and the Cypriot peoples connect the common history with the system of values. He has noted that in the region Turkey and Azerbaijan serve as a threat of security, adding that together we should fight against that threat. In this issue the NA Vice President highlighted the necessity of the rapprochement of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries, as well as supporting each other in different international platforms, which in his speech Yiannakis Omirou, the President of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Cyprus, highlighted.

The RA NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov talked about the problem of the NK conflict settlement, as well as the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide. He has stressed that Armenia is for exclusively peaceful settlement of the NK conflict, but Azerbaijan goes on more intensifying the problem. The NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov has informed the attendees that the year 2015 sees the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide: in connection with that he has proposed to organize an exhibition in the Cypriot Parliament dedicated to the Armenian Genocide, which has been gladly accepted by the guests.
