On April 2 within the framework of the official visit to Cyprus the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan took part in the “Cyprus-Armenia” stamp-issuing solemn ceremony. The stamp was issued as a memory of the Armenian Genocide victims. The united stamp-issuing reflects the consolidation of the two peoples connected with centuries-old and years-old relations. Melgonian Educational Institution known as Armenian identity preservation foundry is depicted on the stamp, the front of the stamp shows the Armenian orphans; planted trees are seen as a memory of their martyred parents.
Let us note that Melgonian Educational Institution was founded in Cyprus in 1924 by the Egyptian Armenian industrialist brothers Karapet and Grigor Melgonians as an asylum and educational centre for the orphans survived the Armenian Genocide.
The heads of the parliaments of Cyprus and Armenia, the deputy of the Cypriot Parliament Vardges Mahtesyan and the Minister of the Transport of the Republic of Cyprus delivered speeches at the official ceremony of presenting the united stamp.
