From March 26 to April 1 the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) was held in the capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Hanoi, where the NA deputy Karine Atshemyan took part. She has noted that it is the only platform where deputies of 165 countries take part for debating urgent issues.
Karine Atshemyan has informed that at the meeting of the Committee on Democracy and Human Rights the Azerbaijani side has attended with the delegation of 4 persons. The Azerbaijani deputy has delivered a speech and talked, according to her description, about the occupied territories, as well as has expressed dissatisfaction to the international structures in relation to not including the Azerbaijani side’s demands in the international documents.
Delivering a speech at the meeting, Karine Atshemyan has stressed that Armenia has not occupied any territory. She has talked about the Karabakh problem. After her speech the Azerbaijani side has left the hall and has not participated at the meeting and the voting.
At the meeting the MP has also touched upon the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial, calling on the MPs of all participant countries to raise the issue of condemnation of genocides in their parliaments.
The deputy highlighted the debate and the adoption of the issue regarding the struggle against terrorism which also included the issues of struggle against cultural vandalism and drugs.
In Vietnam Karine Atshemyan also met with the Speaker of the Syrian Parliament at the Syrian side’s initiative. They discussed issues concerning the Armenian-Syrian relations, as well as referred to the Armenian Genocide Centennial. The Head of the Syrian Parliament assured that the Syrian Delegation will be in Armenia on April 24.
