Meeting at the National Assembly
1 / 3

On April 17 the Head of the RA NA Armenia-Germany Friendship Group Artak Davtyan met with the deputies of the Bundestag Martin Pätzold and Tankred Schipanski. Reiner Morell, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to the RA, also attended the meeting.

Artak Davtyan expressed his gratitude to his German counterparts for visiting Armenia on the eve of the Armenian Genocide Centennial, as well as in relation to the resolution adopted in the European Parliament. He has highly assessed the efforts of Germany being made in the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation, but he has noted that a real reconciliation without recognition of the Armenian Genocide cannot be.

Martin Pätzold has stated that now active debates are underway on the condemnation of the Armenian Genocide in Germany. The deputy of the Bundestag has informed that on April 23 a memorial service will be held in Germany, where the President of the country will take part, and on April 24 a memorial sitting will be convened in the Bundestag.

The interlocutors talked about Armenia’s membership to the EEU and the development of the relations with the EU.

At his colleagues’ request, speaking about the Bologna process and Armenia’s involvement in it, Artak Davtyan has stated that the experience of Germany in that sphere is really exemplary, and it is difficult to imagine the world educational system without Bologna process. He has noted that a number of events are scheduled regarding Armenia’s management of the Secretariat in that process.

At the end of meeting Artak Davtyan expressed hope that Armenian-German parliamentary relations will more enliven, promoting the deepening of the friendly countries’ relations.
