On May 14 the Deputy Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Margarit Yesayan and the NA deputy Edmon Marukyan met with Maud de Boer Buquicchio, Special Repporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Mrs Buquicchio has informed the NA deputies that the main goal of visiting Armenia is to study the problems relating to children’s rights, to make analyses, to collect data on the children’s sex abuse and sale, as well as to study the legislative problems in this sphere.

Highlighting Mrs de Boer Buquicchio’s visit to Armenia, the MPs Margarit Yesayan and Edmon Marukyan have stated that though there are such revelations of violation of human rights in our country, nevertheless, their number is not a matter of concern. In their words, from the moment when Armenia became PACE full member, the legislation of Armenia had been complied with the European standards.

At the meeting the sides also touched upon issues directed to the improvement of the legislation of that sphere.
