At the press conference held on May 21 the Head of the RA NA Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Koryun Nahapetyan and the members of the Delegation Elinar Vardanyan and Tevan Poghosyan touched upon the results of the works of the NATO PA Spring Session held in Budapest, capital of Hungary on May 15-18.
Koryun Nahapetyan informed that the delegation showed very active participation in Budapest: numerous issues on international and regional security were discussed on which the NA delegates presented their interpellations and comments. Mr Nahapetyan noted the in 5 different Committees in the NATO PA Spring Session 16 draft reports were discussed. On the first day with the participation of the RA NA delegates discussions were held in the Committees on Defense and Security, on Economy and Security, as well as on Science and Technology. In his word, at the Political Committee problems related to the security of Russia and the European Union, certain issues regarding the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and others were of key importance. Certain questions were addressed by the Armenian Delegation over different wordings and comments concerning the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
Koryun Nahapetyan noted that the NATO PA President Michael Turner tried to organize tri-partite meeting with the participation the Assembly’s leadership, delegations of Armenia and Azerbaijan. However, the meeting did not take place, as the at the last moment Azerbaijan refused to take part in it, instead, at Michael Turner’s initiative a bilateral brief talk was held, when they talked about the works of the Rose Roth seminar to be held in Yerevan in future.
The member of the RA NA delegation Tevan Poghosyan added that he had made 12 proposals during the discussions, which were taken into consideration. He noted that they had opportunity to voice the problems related to the Armenian Genocide Centennial and role of Turkey.
