1 / 1

On September 22 the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs Koryun Nahapetyan met with Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to Armenia.

In the course of the meeting the sides discussed issues of bilateral interest which relate to regional problems, defense and security, police, emergency situations, the strengthening of inter-parliamentary relations and the perspectives of further development.

Highly assessing the level of the cooperation established in the abovementioned directions between the two countries, Koryun Nahapetyan especially specified the development of the parliamentary relations and the necessity of the implementation of the joint programmes between the appropriate Committees. He also presented the process of the constitutional reforms, especially highlighting the exchange of experience of parliamentary oversight in the spheres of security and defense with the Georgian counterparts. Talking about the problem of regional security Koryun Nahapetyan touched upon the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and at the line of contact with the NKR during the recent years, underlining that cases of violation of the ceasefire regime by Azerbaijan endanger the security and stability of the region.

Thanking for the meeting, Ambassador Sharmanashvili also emphasized the cooperation established between the two countries, expressing readiness for promoting the strengthening and further expansion of the inter-parliamentary relations. He welcomed the initiative of the constitutional reforms, stressing that the transformation into parliamentary system of government will be an important step on the further democratization path of Armenia .
