On October 30 the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations received Mr. Gonzalo Urriolabeitia, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Argentina to Armenia.

Welcoming the guest, Artak Zakaryan highly assessed the friendly relations and the bilateral cooperation with Argentina. The Committee Chairman has noted that the Armenian-Argentinean cooperation has historical bases strengthened by the mutual support between the two countries and peoples and reliable and firm ties of partnership.

In the course of the meeting the interlocutors highlighted the RA President’s official visit to Argentina in the previous year, which boosted the development of the further cooperation between the two countries.

Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh problem, Aratak Zakaryan emphasized the official position of Argentina in that issue, which is consonant with the position of the OSCE Minsk Group Tripartite Chairs. He has also stated that the efforts of the international community are also necessary for the peaceful settlement of the conflict.

Talking about the Armenian Genocide Centennial, Artak Zakaryan has noted that the RA National Assembly and the Armenian community highly assess the adoption of the bill on recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of Argentina in 2006, as an impetus giving special content to the inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries. In this context Artak Zakaryan thanked the Ambassador for the participation of the high-ranking delegation of Argentina in the events of the 100^th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

During the meeting the interlocutors also spotlighted the enlivening of the economic ties between the two countries, the efforts directed to the boosting of the investments in Armenia, as well as the deepening of the cultural and humanitarian ties.

The sides discussed the possibilities of the inter-parliamentary cooperation and the perspectives of their development.

At the end of the meeting Ambassador, thanking the Committee Chairman for the reception, highlighted the role of the parliamentary diplomacy, as well as the boosting of the practical and working relations between the deputies. The Ambassador expressed readiness to support the strengthening of the inter-parliamentary relations.
