On November 18 the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Artak Zakaryan met with Igor Panarin, Coordinator of the CSTO Analytical Association and its members.
During the meeting the role of the CSTO in the modern world and especially in case of new threats was discussed. The sides touched upon the security problems in the
South Caucasus
and highlighted the necessity of the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem.
The interlocutors emphasized Armenia-Russia cooperation especially in the military-political issues. Speaking about the NK issue, Artak Zakaryan presented the position of
Armenia
on the problem and the anxiety of the Armenian society on the growing tension at the border and the encroachments and bellicose rhetoric by
Azerbaijan
. The guests considered inadmissible that the problem will get out of the framework of the peaceful settlement. In this context the sides also deemed necessary the involvement of the active society and the preparation of
Azerbaijan
’s society in the peace establishing processes. It has been noted that the role of the CSTO is considered to be the peaceful initiatives and the struggle against different challenges. In this respect it has been underlined that we cannot let the Karabakh settlement process be turned into a challenge for the whole region.
At the end of the meeting the sides reached an agreement on active cooperation.
