On April 22, the Head of the RA NA Armenia-Germany Friendship Group Artak Davtyan met with the MP of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany Christoph Bergner. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Armenia Bernhard Matthias Kiesler also attended the meeting.

Artak Davtyan welcomed the guest’s visit to Armenia and parliament within the framework of April 24 events. He expressed his gratitude for Germany’s position, the discussions being held in the Bundestag and expressed hope that eventually a united document related to the Armenian Genocide will be adopted in the Bundestag. Mr Davtyan touched upon the Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide to be held in Yerevan. He expressed his concern about the aggression unleashed by the neighbouring country at the beginning of April on Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact during Germany OSCE Chairmanship.

At the guest’s request Artak Davtyan also touched upon the Constitutional amendments made in the Republic of Armenia, noting that the Armenian nation is the bearer of the European value of systems, and this is one more step aimed at the development and deepening of democracy in our country.

Touching upon the Friendship Groups functioning in the parliaments of the two countries Mr Davtyan has noted that the works to be done are a lot in the spheres of contact and cooperation.

Christoph Bergner thanked Artak Davtyan for the reception and highlighted the parliamentarians’ mutual visits and contacts.

The German parliamentarian has stated he is honoured to take part in the Second Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide and to attentively observe the speeches condemning the Genocide.

In Christoph Bergner’s word, the German parliamentarians with great interest follow not only the development of Germany-Armenia relations, but also the EU-Armenia relations within the framework of the Eastern Partnership.

Talking about the Constitutional amendments in the Republic of Armenia Mr Bergner qualified them as one more step aimed at the establishment of democracy.

Referring to the events on the Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact on the first days of April Christoph Bergner has expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and has noted that the international community has no monitoring mechanisms for clarifying the reality and preventing them in future.
