Exhibition Which Reveals the Women’s and Men’s Equality

On May 17, at the foyer next to the RA National Assembly Session Hall a photo exhibition opened which had the title “Even it Up: For the Women’s and Men’s Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities.” The Oxfam Office in Armenia and OxYGen Foundation initiated and implemented the event. Figures of political, cultural and other spheres are presented as models in the exhibition. All the participants in the photos underlined their words with equation sign, that is: women and men are equal. The goal of the exhibition to jointly voice and highlight the women’s participation in the political processes and talked about steps, which will promote their representation in the legislative body. By the way, the exhibition coincided and was held in parallel with the adoption of the RA Draft Electoral Code in the second reading in parliament.

The RA NA Deputy Speaker Hermine Naghdalyan had opening remarks in the exhibition. Highlighting the role of the event Hermine Naghdalyan has noted that in our country considerable progress is recorded today in the women’s and men’s equal rights. “Equal rights are no more on the paper,” the NA Deputy Speaker underlined and added that at present there is also big potential in the social and public sector, where women do works. In her speech the NA Deputy Speaker also touched upon the fact of the increase of women’s number in parliament in recent period and stressed that mainly the ruling party provided it.

At the end of the event Hermine Naghdalyan has noted that the women’s role in politics is not end in itself, as due to them any sharp angle is leveled.
