On May 27, the RA NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov and the First Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Ecuador Rosana Alvarado after their meeting made a statement for the representatives of the media.
The NA Vice President Eduard Sharmazanov has noted that Armenia highlights the development of relations with Latin America, including the Republic of Ecuador and has added that the visit of the Delegation led by Mrs Alvarado will be a new impetus in deepening of those ties.
Mr Sharmazanov has informed that by his proposal an agreement was reached on initiating Friendship Groups in the parliaments of the two countries. By the NA Vice President’s conviction, it will be a good basis for strengthening of bilateral parliamentary ties.
Eduard Sharmazanov has noted that the problem of international condemnation of genocides was also discussed. Mr Sharmazanov expressed his gratitude to Mrs Alvarado for her civil and political position shown in the issue of the necessity of condemnation of the Armenian Genocide.
“We think that the international condemnation of genocides is important. We should do our best in order the genocides of the past be condemned in condition of not being repeated, because the silence and the denialism open a door for new genocides, the condemnation closes the doors,” Mr Sharmazanov said.
He expressed hope that a process will be initiated by his Ecuadorian counterparts, as a result of which, Ecuador will be in the series of countries, which will condemn the Armenian Genocide, and in general, the genocides occurred in Turkey.
It has been noted that Armenia’s blockade by Turkey has been considered inadmissible, and reaffirming that it has no connection with the democratic 21st century.
“We have condemned Turkey’s one-sided support to Azerbaijan’s aggression in Nagorno Karabakh, once again considering inadmissible and condemnable the terrorism of the Azerbaijani authorities and the Azerbaijani armed forces towards the Nagorno Karabakh (NK) people, noting that the realization of the NK people’s self-determination cannot have alternative,” the RA NA Vice President noted.
Mr Sharmazanov has noted that he conveyed to his Ecuadorian counterparts materials documenting the atrocities and tortures committed by the Azerbaijani armed forces towards the Armenian servicemen and civilians at the beginning of April.
Ending his word Eduard Sharmazanov has underlined that though Armenia and Ecuador are far away by distance, but the two countries are the bearers of the same system of values, the basis of which are the Christian, all-human and democratic values.
Rosana Alvarado in her word has noted that though the two countries are far geographically, but they defend the same principles – the human rights. She has added that the Constitution of Ecuador allows recognizing and protecting the rights of the peoples’ self-sovereignty and self-determination, condemning all manifestations of neo-colonialism and genocides.
“We cannot forget what has happened: the Armenian people’s suffering, and we should share with you that pain, as it relates to the human rights,” the Vice President of the Parliament of Ecuador noted.
She also highlighted the initiative of creating Friendship Groups in the parliaments of the two countries, noting that it will create an opportunity to feel the breath of Armenia and the Armenian people in Ecuador, and the breath of Ecuador and Ecuadorians in Armenia.
The Chairwoman of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the Parliament of the Republic of Ecuador María Augusta Calle Andrade also touched upon the Armenian Genocide, underlining that it is nonsense that in our days, genocides and massacres occur. She opined that peace should be built on the basis of honouring the right of all peoples’ self-determination.
