Press Conference in Parliament
1 / 1

On June 8, at the press conference held by the RA NA deputy Aragats Akhoyan rouched upon the letter by the General Vicar of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople, Aram Archbishop Ateshian addressed to the President of Turkey related to the Resolution adopted on Armenian Genocide by the Bundestag of Germany. The Archbishop particularly, wrote: As an Armenian community of Turkey we express our regret on the decision of the Bundestag.”

Aragats Akhoyan has noted that that letter by the General Vicar of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople is the climax of his anti-Armenian deeds. According to the deputy, beginning from 2011, when with great solemnity the Armenian Holy Cross Church of Van opened, Aram Archbishop Ateshian made non pro-Armenian statements, pouring water, to the so-called, Turkey’s anti-Armenian watermill. His main goal is to provide his position and place in the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople, Aragats Akhoyan said.

“We shall create such conditions and atmosphere with Turkey’s Armenian community in order the Archbishop voluntarily resigns and leaves the General Vicar’s position. The only way to get rid of him is the organization of the election for General Vicar of the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople,” Aragats Akhoyan noted.

The deputy also added that many citizens of non Armenian origin of Turkey expressed their surprise and hesitation connected with Aram Archbishop Ateshian’s infamous letter.
