On September 7, the delegation on an official visit to Uruguay, led by the RA National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Head of the Armenia-Uruguay Parliamentary Friendship Group Eduard Sharmazanov and comprised of the MPs Sukias Avetisyan and Mikayel Manukyan, met with the President of the House of Representatives of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay Gerardo Amarilla.

The NA Deputy Speaker expressed gratitude to Gerardo Amarilla for inviting his delegation and him to visit Uruguay .

Eduard Sharmazanov stated with satisfaction that the mutual relations between the two countries are based on goodwill, mutual understanding and support – the absence of various issues between the two states witnesses that.

The Head of the Armenian delegation emphasized that Armenia is interested in establishing comprehensive cooperation with Latin American countries, including Uruguay . He expressed hope that the visit will also promote some progress in that regard.

Eduard Sharmazanov documented that the two countries closely cooperate in the international organizations, supporting each other’s candidates in various elections. He added that Armenia highly appreciates the fact that Uruguay has always shown balanced approach in voting on resolutions pertaining to Armenia in NATO.

The NA Deputy Speaker also touched upon the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, particularly noting, “We will do our best for the achievement of full international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The mass condemnation of such crimes will promote the prevention of new crimes against humanity. Uruguay took the lead in the process of recognition of the Genocide, serving as an example to the entire world and indicating its commitment to all-human values.”

Speaking about the NK conflict settlement process, Eduard Sharmazanov mentioned that Armenia and Artsakh stand for exclusively peaceful settlement of the problem and supplemented that the exercise of the right to self-determination of Arsakh Armenians has no alternative.

The NA Deputy Speaker stated with pride that the Armenian community has had and continues currently having a significant role in the deepening of the relations between Armenia and Uruguay , acting as a bridge between the two countries.
