On October 5, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic of Armenia Nafsika Nancy Eva Vraila.

Welcoming the guest, Eduard Sharmazanov congratulated her on the occasion of being appointed an Ambassador and wished her effective work in Armenia. The NA Deputy Speaker has highly assessed the Armenian and Greek peoples’ centuries-old friendship and has noted that it is gradually developing, which is also conditioned by the resemblance and commonalities of the two peoples’ destinies. Eduard Sharmazanov has attached significant role to the inter-parliamentary cooperation and has informed that Friendship Groups function in the parliaments of Armenia and Greece, which actively cooperate, and the partnership and mutual visits are also active on different international platforms.

Eduard Sharmazanov expressed his gratitude to the Hellenic Parliament for the adoption of the Resolution on Recognizing and Condemning the Armenian Genocide, as well as informed that both the parliaments of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh unanimously adopted announcements condemning the genocide perpetrated towards the Pontian Greeks and Assyrians by the Ottoman Empire.

Eduard Sharmazanov also touched upon the April War unleashed by Azerbaijan and highlighted the Greek deputies’ visits to the RA and Artsakh during those hard days.

Thanking the NA Deputy Speaker for the warm reception, the Ambassador Nafsika Nancy Eva Vraila noted that she had assumed with great love the responsibility of being Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia. She has also emphasized the inter-parliamentary active cooperation and noted that it is also desirable to cooperate in the spheres, which still have gaps. The Ambassador thanked the NA Deputy Speaker for the announcement adopted by the RA National Assembly and proposed a number of directions for the development of cooperation. The NA Deputy Speaker expressed willingness to support their implementation.

At the meeting the parties touched upon the problems of the Greek community in Armenia and other issues of interest.
