135th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly is Held in Geneva
1 / 3

On November 9, a press conference dedicated to the works of the 135th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly was held in the RA National Assembly. The member of the Delegation of the parliament of our country in the organisation Karine Atshemyan presented the details of the sessions held in Geneva, on October 23-27. Let us note that the NA Deputy Heghine Bisharyan also took part in the works of the Assembly. As Karine Atshemyan noted, the works went on with full agenda and included key items concerning the modern challenges. They mainly related to the war situation in Syria, the protection of human rights during the conflicts, the provision of the world peace and security, as well as the dissemination of democratic values in the world. Being a member of the Bureau on Peace and Security, Karine Atshemyan gave a speech before the representatives of the European countries and presented the details of the April four-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan and the inhuman atrocities committed by them. In Geneva, the MP also talked about the Constitutional reforms made in our country, the women's role and their involvement in the politics. The NA Delegation took part in the expertise debate in Geneva.

Karine Atshemyan informed the journalists that within the framework of the Assembly a meeting with the Swedish Delegation was held, which went on in the context of the RA-EU relations. In Geneva there were many non-official meetings of the parliamentarians, where the MPs representing our country talked over key items for Armenia's foreign policy and once again presented to their European colleagues the position of our country aimed at Nagorno Karabakh problem settlement and Azerbaijan's anti-Armenian policy.

Let us inform that 170 countries are members of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly.
