Eduard Sharmazanov: Denial of Armenian Genocide Paves a Path for Islamic Terrorism
1 / 3

On November 29, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov received the deputies of the People’s Council of the Syrian Arab Republic Omar al Arabi and Alan Bakr. The Charge d’Affaires of Syria to Armenia Essam Nayyal attended the meeting.

The NA Deputy Speaker has welcomed the Syrian MPs’ visit to Armenia and has noted that the Armenian-Syrian friendship has centuries-old history, which has more strengthened due to giving asylum the Armenian immigrants, who survived the Genocide and granting second Motherland by Syria.

Eduard Sharmazanov highlighted the cooperation between the two countries and in that aspect paid special attention to the strengthening of the inter-parliamentary ties. He expressed his gratitude to the Parliament of Syria for the steps taken at the discussion of the Armenian Genocide issue on the previous year.

“The denial of genocides is full of danger of crime repetition: the Turkish denial and impunity bore new, similar terrorists of the Islamic State,” Eduard Sharmazanov noted.

At the meeting the sides touched upon the crisis existing in Syria: the NA Deputy Speaker wished the Syrian people steadfastness and expressed hope that soon peace and legality will be in the country. Eduard Sharmazanov has underlined Armenia’s position in the struggle against terrorism and assured that the Armenian MPs are ready to raise their voice in different international platforms for the peaceful settlement of the Syrian problem.

The deputies of the People’s Council of the Syrian Arab Republic Omar al Arabi and Alan Bakr thanked the NA Deputy Speaker for the warm reception and conveyed the gratitude of the Syrian authorities and people to the Armenian people for backing and supporting them in hard moments. The Syrian parliamentarians also highlighted the rapprochement of the inter-parliamentary ties and noted that the debates of the issue on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide go on in the relevant Committees of the Syrian Parliament.

They invited the RA NA Deputy Speaker to leave for Syria on an official visit.
