On June 1, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Arpine Hovhannisyan received Special Envoys for Eastern Partnership of Foreign Ministries of EU Member-States Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Slovakia, Sweden and the Netherlands headed by Ambassador Dušan Dacho, Special Envoy of the MFA of Slovakia.
Welcoming the EU Envoys in the National Assembly, Arpine Hovhannisyan highlighted Armenia-EU cooperation and the programmes being implemented in our country within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. During the talk the RA NA Deputy Speaker touched upon the anti-corruption reforms underway. She noted that in the future the bills on establishment of an anti-corruption body and on whistleblowers’ protection, stressing their importance in the fight against corruption.
Touching upon the parliamentary elections, the interlocutors emphasized the reforms implemented in the RA electoral system.
In the course of the meeting, Arpine Hovhannisyan thoroughly presented the process of the Judicial Code drafting and the guarantees directed to the provision of the judges’ independence. At the Envoys’ request, the NA Deputy Speaker also referred to the draft law on Family Violence.
At the end of the meeting, both parties attached importance to signing of the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement. The EU Special Envoys highly assessed the progress recorded in the last eighteen months in Armenia, considering it a good basis for strengthening democracy and development of protection of human rights.
