Parliament Hosts Delegation Led by Baroness Caroline Cox
1 / 5

On April 27, the Head of the RA NA Armenia-Great Britain Friendship Group Lilit Makunts, the members of the Group Edmon Marukyan, Sos Avetisyan and the deputy Maria Karapetyan met with the delegation led by the member of the House of Lords of the Parliament of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Baroness Caroline Cox.

Welcoming the guests, the Head of the Friendship Group Lilit Makunts expressed her gratitude to the Baroness for being next to the Armenian people during the 44-day war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh, as well as for being in Armenia during these days and taking part in the events dedicated to the commemoration of the memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.

The Armenian parliamentarians presented the post-war situation in Armenia and the events being carried out to overcome the problems caused because of war.

Makunts noted that the necessity of holding snap parliamentary elections had been announced in the Republic of Armenia to overcome the political crisis. “As you know, on April 25, the RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan resigned, in the near future the parliament will also be dissolved for holding snap parliamentary elections in June.”

During the meeting the NA deputies underlined the importance of support of all international colleagues in the return of Armenian prisoners of war. It has been noted that Azerbaijan does not fulfill its obligation stipulated by paragraph 8 of the tripartite statement, according to which, the prisoners of war and other detained persons should get an immediate opportunity to return to their homeland by the principle “all for all.” The Armenian parliamentarians asked Baroness Cox to use all her personal connections for the benefit of that issue.
