On April 29 RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan received the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary Tina Kaidanow.
RA NA Speaker highlighted such visits from the view of continuity of various and comprehensive dialogue between the two countries and highly assessed the level of the existing relations between Armenia and USA. He thanked the USA for supporting Armenia in different spheres. Hovik Abrahamyan expressed willingness as Speaker of Parliament to support the further strengthening of the Armenian-American cooperation and development, and in this context he highlighted the activation of the inter-parliamentary relations.
The U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs also highly assessed the current level of the Armenian-American cooperation, highlighting the further development of the bilateral relations. She emphasized the continuity of the democratic processes in Armenia, the improvement of the Electoral Code, considering welcoming the open and transparent debates organized on the amendments of the Code. She expressed concern about the economic situation of Armenia and noted that their aim was to support in ensuring progress to Armenia.
Touching upon the inner-political situation the NA Speaker noted that RA President Serzh Sargsyan was taking radical steps for establishing an atmosphere of dialogue and tolerance in the country.
Hovik Abrahamyan also highlighted the improvement of the Electoral Code and expressed hope that until the end of May about one year before the parliamentary elections the parliament would adopt the reformed Code, and before that, at the beginning of May with the particpation of the Venice Commission members parliamentary hearings would be organized in the National Assembly.
The sides also touched upon the legislative reforms, the regional problems and other issues of bilateral interest.
