On November 22 in Montevideo in the General Assembly of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (ORU), within the framework of the official visit to the ORU the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan met with the President of the House of Representatives of the Uruguayan Parliament Herman Cardoso.

Welcoming the NA President Herman Cardoso has noted that Uruguay gives importance to the development of multilateral relations. To his conviction, the inter-parliamentary cooperation has a big role in the development and deepening of inter-state relations, and such visits promote the strengthening of friendship of the two countries.

Hovik Abrahamyan also highlighted the deepening of bilateral cooperation in different directions and the cooperation of the two parliaments in different dimensions. He deemed necessary the upgrading and enlargement of the legal field shaped between the two countries, which will create a fertile soil in different spheres, especially in the trade-economic sphere for active cooperation.

The interlocutors considered important the further development of the inter-parliamentary relations and the cooperation of the Friendship Groups. They touched upon the regional problems, the settlement of the NK conflict and the process of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. The sides have stressed that the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh problem has no alternative. “Today in case of the need of preserving fragile security created in the South Caucasus the importance of the balanced and unbiased position towards the countries of the region by the international community should be more conscientious. And the fair approach of Uruguay, as a friendly country towards the peaceful settlement of the conflict can have an essential role in the international arena,” the NA President said.

In the course of the meeting other issues of mutual interest were also discussed. Hovik Abrahamyan invited Herman Cardoso to Armenia on an official visit.
