On May 16 the RA NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan received Traian Hristea, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Jean Michel Happi, the World Bank’s Country Manager for Armenia, Ms Nadia Lichtenberger, Deputy Head of Mission in the German Embassy to Armenia, Dagmar Bott, Head of the GIZ Armenian Office and David Franzreb, Public Financial Management Program Director. The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs Gagik Minasyan attended the meeting.
Welcoming the guests the NA Speaker Galust Sahakyan highlighted the Armenia-EU effective cooperation. He has highly assessed the EU support, which is aimed at Armenia’s social-economic and institutional development, strengthening of state institutions, reform of the public administration, fight against corruption, provision of the judicial system’s independence, the guarantee of freedom of speech and etc.
Congratulating Galust Sahakyan on the occasion of being elected NA President, Traian Hristea, Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, expressed conviction that the close cooperation formed with the National Assembly would be continuous. He highlighted the amendments to the law “On Control Chamber” and expressed willingness to support and work jointly in order it would completely comply with the standards of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). The World Bank’s Country Manager for Armenia highlighted the revision of the law and also expressed willingness to assist.
The NA Speaker has emphasized the reforms of the law “On Control Chamber” and its harmonisation with the European standards, noting that the budgetary control is one of the important tools for the fight against corruption. Galust Sahakyan deemed necessary the deepening of cooperation of the National Assembly with the EU and international structures and the implementation of joint programmes.
In the course of the meeting other issues of bilateral interest were also discussed.
