On September 30 RA NA President Artur Baghdasaryan received Gianni Buquicchio, Secretary of the Venice Commission. During the meeting the constitutional reforms in Armenia were at the center of discussion.
The Speaker of the Parliament informed the Secretary of the Venice Commission that the parliament has already passed the draft amendments in the Constitution in the third reading by the extraordinary session and the amendments to the law on Referendum. Both sides highlighted the preparation of the referendum of the constitutional amendments and the implementation of the campaign, in order to have the whole society aware of the proposed amendments in the acting Constitution and be able to fully choose. NA President Artur Baghdasaryan noted that the constitutional amendments are a new and important step on the democratization of Armenia, and they will create possibilities for political and economic progress. Both sides highlighted the assistance of the Venice Commission experts in complying the Constitution with the European standards. Mr. Buquicchio noted that the parliament has its important contribution, and now the word is already to the society and political forces, the consolidation of which is very important during the solution of the problems being of vital importance for the country.
During the meeting other issues were also discussed.
